Blog #3 July 29

It's been a wild couple of days and unfortunately we aren't back home yet. Right after my last blog Tim starting having more serious side effects from the procedure/medications and we ended up in the ER in Hackensack. He had many tests including chest x rays, EKG, and Cat scan of his head. These tests were used to rule out any other undiagnosed problems which would explain his dizziness, near fainting, and blurred vision. He spent most of the night in the hallway of the ER and was admitted to the hospital around 2:30am but didn't get a room upstairs until noon the next day. After much discussion it was determined that he would be allowed to start his second day of harvesting despite the worrisome side effects from the day before. Two transplant nurses literally rolled the apheresis machine from the cancer center to his hospital room. Of course it was a late start so he only had harvesting from 3-6pm. (lab which takes the stem cells closes at 6:30) It unfortunately didn't yield enough stem cells so today, again in the hospital room, they harvested more cells starting at noon and ending at 5pm. He needs 12 million to cover two stem cell transplants plus some extra. Fingers crossed!!!

Tim is still in the hospital receiving fluids and medicine for his newly diagnosed vertigo. He will start PT to help alleviate the symptoms when he gets back home. He is resting comfortably and hopes to get released tomorrow!
